Name

We are known as the C Bees.  C for charity, but also for caring, cooperation, constructing, compassion, all the things that make a bee so special.  It's my hope that lasting friendships will be formed as we work together doing for others.  We are not a separate entity from Brunswick Quilters, but rather a bee within Brunswick Quilters.

Where Do We Meet?

We meet on the third Tuesday of the month at Bent Tree Plantation Club House.  Our meetings start at 10:00 AM.  We are fortunate to have a beautiful view to enjoy during our meetings.  Directions to the club house can be found here.

Web Site

I have created this web site with the intention of using it for communication with our bee.  I will place information about our projects here, patterns that our members wish to share, and resources to make our job a little easier.  I will continue to email everyone with information, but this will contain the information in the event your email has been lost.  So, check the site frequently to see what's been posted.

Rules

What a nasty word rules is.   Well we had a long discussion of what the "rules" would be.  Basically there is only one rule.  Quilts cannot be any smaller than 40x50 for the wounded soldiers.  This is to be a fun, productive bee with a common cause.  What patterns you choose to use, what fabrics you choose to use is up to your individual taste.  My hope is that we will learn from each other and share our talents with each other.  You will not be required to lug your sewing machines up the stairs at Bent Tree to sew with other people unless you want to.  A meeting monthly may be warranted.  If there is going to be a meeting you will receive an email to let you know.

Projects

Wounded Soldier Quilts

We have decided to make lap quilts no smaller than 40 x 50 inches for our wounded service men and women recovering at Brooke Army Medical Center on Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio Texas.  This facility is both a burn trauma center, and an amputee trauma center.  Janis Roznowski our contact at BAMC said that they would be very happy to distribute our quilts to the wounded.  She would like us to include a letter with each quilt to be given to the recipient.  We have composed a letter that will be copied by Janis and given with each quilt.  I  would like to see us complete and send 10 quilts a month.  I think this is a reasonable goal.   Can most of us commit to one quilt a month?  Maybe not every month, but then maybe another month you could do more than one.   Anyway, I would be thrilled if we could get the 10 a month done.  No specific fabrics are required, but the soldiers do like the patriotic theme.

We also mentioned our walker bags to Janis and she would be delighted to get them for the guys and gals at BAMC.  So we have decided to make and send walker bags too.  Any fabrics are ok.

Walker bags for the community

We will also be making Walker Bags for the community.  We will be making and distributing them to Autumn Care Nursing Home, Ocean Trails Nursing Home, Dosher Nursing Care Center, and to the Senior Citizens Center in Shallotte.

Brunswick Community Hospital Project

We have been in contact with the Brunswick Hospital about starting a project there.  More information on this will follow.

Alzheimer's Foundation of America Quilt

I have received information regarding the Alzheimer's Foundation Quilt and presented it today.  It is modeled after the AIDS quilt that was displayed all around the country.  After discussion, it was determined that if we decided to send them a panel for the quilt, it would be something we would do at a later date.
